Tadalafil (Generic Cialis)

Tadalafil tablets work by helping men to get an erection when they are unable to naturally, which is called erectile dysfunction. Tadalafil is a generic version of the brand medicine Cialis, which is also used to treat erectile dysfunction.

How Tadalafil works

Tadalafil is a type of medication called a PDE-5 inhibitor, which works by relaxing the muscles in the blood vessels of the penis. This helps to improve blood flow to the penis, helping you get an erection. Tadalafil on its own will not make you get an erection. In order for Tadalafil to work, you need to be aroused. If you’re not sexually aroused it will not have the same effect.

How to take Tadalafil

  • You must take Tadalafil exactly as your doctor tells you to
  • You should swallow a single tablet of Tadalafil whole with water
  • Take Tadalafil 10mg or 20mg 30 minutes before you want to have sex
  • Take Tadalafil 2.5mg or 5mg once a day at the same time each day
  • Avoid eating heavy meals before taking Tadalafil
  • Avoid taking Tadalafil with alcohol or grapefruit juice
  • Don’t take more than one pill a day
  • Don’t take Tadalafil with any other erectile dysfunction tablets

Tadalafil is an effective medication:

  • Less than 2% of men reported experiencing mild side effects when taking Tadalafil, so it is fairly safe to use for most men
  • Our Tadalafil service has a rating of 4.3 out of 5 on Trustpilot.com
  • Tadalafil has a rating of 8.5 out of 10 on drugs.com
  • Tadalafil takes about 30 mins to start working
  • Tadalafil lasts for up to 36 hours

There are 4 doses of Tadalafil:

  • 2 doses you take before sex, 10mg and 20mg
  • 2 daily doses, 2.5mg and 5mg

Tadalafil 10mg

If you have sex on up to 3 different days a week, Tadalafil 10mg is the recommended dose to start on.

Tadalafil 20mg

If you’ve tried 10mg of Tadalafil and you didn’t get the effects you wanted, and you didn’t get any serious side effects, you could try Tadalafil 20mg.

This dose is slightly more likely to work but has a higher risk of side effects.

Never switch doses without talking to a doctor first.

Tadalafil Daily – 2.5mg and 5mg

If you have sex on more than 3 different days a week, you could try Cialis Daily. Because you take it every day it’s always in effect so there’s no need to plan for sex.

5mg is the recommended starting dose. If this dosage works for you but you get some non-serious side effects, you could try 2.5mg which might improve the side effects.

If you need help choosing:

  • Both are about as effective as each other – even though Sildenafil has higher dosage numbers, that doesn’t mean it’s stronger overall
  • If you want a longer-lasting medication, you might want to choose Tadalafil or Tadalafil Daily
  • If you don’t want to have to plan to take your medication before sex, you might want to choose Tadalafil Daily

Since sildenafil and tadalafil are the active ingredients in Viagra and Cialis, you can see our Viagra vs Cialis vs Levitra page for more information.

Before taking any medication, you should read the safety advice in the patient information leaflet that comes with it. Tadalafil is only available on prescription and is not suitable for everyone, as it may cause side effects.

You can read more information about how to take Tadalafil, how to store it and the full list of known side effects in the patient information leaflet.
