How it Works

Using Vaniqa

About Vaniqa

Vaniqa cream reduces unwanted facial hair in women. This means you’ll need to tweeze/wax/shave less, however Vaniqa is designed to be used alongside these hair removal methods. It contains the active ingredient Eflornithine.

Vaniqa blocks the action of a chemical that the body uses to grow hair. You apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected areas in the morning and at night after washing your face. You apply it before you put on any suncream, moisturiser or make-up.

It takes between four and eight weeks to have a noticeable effect. If you stop using Vaniqa, its effects will wear off within eight weeks, by which time your hair will go back to growing the same as it did before you used it.

About Unwanted Facial Hair

Hirsutism is the term for unwanted male-pattern hair growth in women. This includes unwanted facial hair, which can be caused by excess male hormones or by a family or ethnic trait.

Excess male hormones can be caused by polycystic ovaries, cushing’s syndrome, tumors, or congenital adrenal hyperplasma, but sometimes there is no identifiable cause.

Unwanted facial hair can cause distress. It can also sometimes be a sign of an underlying condition, so talk to a doctor if you are concerned.

How to use Vaniqa

Vaniqa needs to be used twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Clean and dry your skin before applying the cream. Apply a thin layer of Vaniqa cream and rub it in gently, until there is no residue left. Wash your hands after applying the cream.

Leave at least five minutes after shaving or using any other hair removal method before you use Vaniqa. Avoid washing the affected areas for four hours after application.

Wait at least five minutes before applying make-up, sunscreen or a different lotion on the areas you have treated. Avoid contact with the eyes, lips and mouth. If you accidentally rub Vaniqa cream into your eyes or mouth, rinse thoroughly with plenty of water.

Vaniqa slows hair growth - you may still wish to use your usual hair removal method in addition to your treatment.

Who can use Vaniqa?

Most women can use Vaniqa. However, you must not use Vaniqa if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in the cream . The cream is not suitable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. You should tell your doctor if you have any problems with your kidneys or liver. It is a medication recommended for adults only.
