How it Works

About Hair Loss in Women

Regaine for women

Regaine for women is a solution which contains the active ingredient minoxidil. It stimulates your hair follicles and can reduce hair loss. 55% - 59% of women who use it regrow some hair within the first 32 weeks of using Regaine.

In order for it to work, you need to apply the solution twice a day. You need to apply it once in the morning and once in the evening.

Every time you use Regaine, apply a 1ml dose to the affected area. The applicator provided helps you use the correct amount every time. You mustn’t use more Regaine than advised. After using the solution, wash your hands.

Nourkrin tablets for women

Nourkrin tablets are a nutritional supplement which contains the fish extract Marilex as well as a range of plant extracts that benefit your hair. It maintains the health of your hair follicles and promotes hair growth, especially in women whose hair loss is caused by a lack of certain minerals and nutrients.

Nourkrin needs to be taken twice daily. Take one tablet in the morning and one in the evening after food. Swallow the tablets whole with a drink of water. In order for the treatment to work you need to take the tablets for several months.

Nourkrin won’t help if you are already bald and you should use it as soon as you spot the signs of thinning hair.

Alpecin shampoo

Alpecin shampoo is a hair loss treatment for women and men. You need to use the shampoo on a daily basis and leave it in for about 2 minutes every time. After two minutes, rinse you hair thoroughly. Alpecin contains caffeine, which stimulates your hair follicles and encourages them to remain active.

Alpecin Double Effect shampoo stimulates your follicles while also removing dandruff.

Side effects of hair loss treatments

Some hair loss treatments can cause side effects. Regaine for women can cause headache, skin irritation and changes in the colour or texture of your hair. It is normal to notice increased shedding during the first two weeks of treatment with Regaine. This indicates that the treatment is working. If you find that you are shedding an unusual amount of hair after the first 14 days of treatment, stop using Regaine and ask your doctor for advice.

Alpecin shampoo and Nourkrin tablets are not known to cause any common side effects.

Alternative treatments

Which treatment is right for you depends on why you are losing your hair. Female pattern baldness can be treated with nutritional supplements or shampoos which encourage hair growth. Alternatively, you can wear a wig or scarf. Some people opt for a surgical procedure such as a hair transplant.

If you suddenly develop unexplained hair loss you should consult a doctor to check for a possible underlying health issue.

Causes of hair loss in women

Female hair loss can have various causes. Thinning hair can be due to changes in your hormones and many women experience some degree of hair loss after pregnancy. In most cases, however, thinning hair occurs as you get older and it is hereditary. This type of hair loss is not dangerous and it does not usually indicate that you suffer from an underlying illness.

However, if your hair loss sets in suddenly you should see a doctor for a diagnosis. Hair loss in women can also be caused by medication, such as some contraceptive pills or treatments for cancer.
