How is Yasmin taken?
Yasmin needs to be taken at the same time everyday in order for it to work effectively. If you are taking Yasmin for the first time, you can decide which time you would like to take your pill and use the same time from then. The tablet must be swallowed with a glass of water. The days of the week are printed on the side of the blister pack, which helps you keep track of which pill to take.
Why are there 21 tablets in a pack?
There is a one week break after 3 weeks of taking the pill. During this week long period, you are still protected from pregnancy and you will usually experience a light and less painful period. After the week is over, you need to start taking the tablets again.
What happens if I forget to take my pill?
If you forget to take Yasmin until over 12 hours after the correct time, it is advised that you use protection during the 7 days that follow. Whether this is necessary depends on your menstrual cycle. The patient leaflet provided with your medication includes detailed instructions on what to do in this case. If you forget to take Yasmin in the third week, you should skip your break and start the next blister pack straight away.
What if I take more than I should?
Yasmin has not been reported to cause serious harm as the result of an accidental overdose. However, you might experience nausea or vomiting while young girls might experience unusual bleeding. If you have taken more Yasmin than you should, consult a pharmacist or doctor.
Yasmin contains two active ingredients, Ethinylestradiol and Drospirenone. Each tablet contains 0.03mg Ethinylestradiol and 3.0mg Drospirenone.
The pills are round, yellow and have the words ‘DO’ engraved on one side.
