How it Works

About Avanafil

How can I buy avanafil?

How to buy avanafil (Spedra) online

If you need help getting and keeping erections hard enough for sex, you can order avanafil. You don’t need to have taken avanafil before and you don’t need a paper prescription from your GP – just follow the steps below:

  • Start an order by clicking on the ‘Order Now’ button above
  • Complete a short online assessment by answering questions about your health and lifestyle
  • Select Spedra (avanafil) when you place your order
  • A Superdrug doctor will check your answers and approve treatment if it’s right for you
  • If a Superdrug Doctor can’t approve avanafil for you, they’ll send you a message explaining this and give you some advice on what to do next.

Generic avanafil isn’t currently available in the UK, but you can order Spedra, which has Avanafil as the active ingredient.

Important: When you order a generic (non-branded) medication, it may arrive in different packaging or under a different name to what’s pictured or what you expect. This is because we order from a variety of different suppliers to make sure you always have your medication available when you need it. The medication you receive will contain the same active ingredients and work in exactly the same way.

What is avanafil?

Avanafil is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction. It is a PDE5-inhibitor, which means that it works in a similar way to other erectile dysfunction medications like Viagra.

Avanafil is the fastest working erectile dysfunction tablet. It can get to work in just 15 mins, where other pills take 30 to 60 mins to start working.

Generic (unbranded) avanafil is not available in the UK, but you can get branded versions of this medication which work in the exact same way. Spedra is the most common brand of avanafil in the UK, while Stendra is more common in the US. Only Spedra is licensed for use in the treatment of erectile dysfunction in the UK.

How to use avanafil

Avanafil is easy to use, just follow the steps below:

  • Read the patient information leaflet that comes with your medication
  • Always follow your doctor’s advice when taking your medication
  • Take your avanafil at least 15 minutes before you want to have sex
  • Swallow your pill whole with water
  • Only take one tablet of avanafil every 24 hours

How to get the most out of avanafil

To get the best results from avanafil with the lowest chance of side effects:

  • Avoid heavy meals, especially fatty foods, before using avanafil - this can cause avanafil to take longer to work, and be less effective when it does start working
  • Don’t drink alcohol and take avanafil – it makes it harder to get and keep erections and makes side effects more likely
  • Avoid drinking grapefruit juice as this also make side effects more likely
  • Make sure you’re aroused, as avanafil doesn’t cause erections by itself and only works when you’re sexually stimulated
  • Don’t take avanafil with other erectile dysfunction medications

Avanafil dosage

There are 3 doses of avanafil, 50mg, 100mg, and 200mg. The dose refers to how much of the active ingredient is in each pill.

Avanafil 50mg

This is the lowest dose available, used for people who are at a higher risk of side effects. If you’ve tried 100mg and it worked, but you had side effects, then you could try 50mg instead. Switching to 50mg with the help of a doctor can give you effective treatment and improve your side effects too.

We don’t offer 50mg Spedra so we can’t offer this dose of avanafil medication.

Avanafil 100mg

This is the standard dose of avanafil, and is the dose we recommend you try if you’ve not taken avanafil before. This dose is safe and effective for most men who are prescribed it, but you can discuss changing your dose with a doctor if you feel it isn’t effective, or if you’re getting side effects.

Avanafil 200mg

This is the highest dose of avanafil available, and is the safest amount you can take in a 24 hour period. If you tried the 100mg dose and it didn’t work for you, and you didn’t get any serious side effects, a doctor could help you switch to this dose.

Does dosage affects how likely avanafil is to work?

The effectiveness of avanafil is related to the size of the dose, meaning that on average, users taking a higher dosage are more likely to achieve an erection. This is not always the case, and will vary for each person. No matter what the dose is, once avanafil has taken effect it should last for around 6 hours.

One study showed that avanafil works for:

  • 40-45% of men on a 50 mg dosage
  • 55-60% of men on a 100 mg dosage
  • 60-65% of men on a 200 mg dosage

This was compared with 25-30% of men on a placebo pill (one containing no medication).

Avanafil reviews

Avanafil is effective for 52% to 71% of people who try it. Here are some average ratings for avanafil medications like Spedra or Stendra, taken from patient reviews:

Avanafil vs sildenafil (Viagra)

Avanafil and sildenafil are both safe and effective medications. We don’t recommend one over the other, but there are some points to consider when making your decision:

  • Avanafil works faster than sildenafil so you don’t have to wait as long before trying to have sex
  • Sildenafil is a cheaper generic medication, giving you an affordable treatment option, but you can only buy branded avanafil medications which usually cost more
  • You can buy sildenafil over the counter as Viagra Connect but avanafil is prescription only

Is avanafil safe?

Avanafil is safe and effective, but a doctor will only approve treatment if they think it’s low-risk for you. They may not approve treatment if you have health conditions or other treatments that make avanafil unsafe. Even if a doctor approves treatments, there is still a risk of side effects.
