Sumatriptan is a prescription medication used to treat migraines. There are different types of migraines. The most common symptoms are:

  • severe headaches
  • nausea or vomiting
  • problems with bright light or loud noises
Migraine symptoms are caused by a temporary widening of the blood vessels in your head. Sumatriptan works to relieve these symptoms by reducing the widening of these blood vessels.

Its full name is sumatriptan succinate, but it is also sold under the brand names Imigran or Migraitan.
