What are the advantages of using an inhaler spacer?

Dr Louisa Draper

"Using a spacer slows down the speed at which the spray comes out of the inhaler, so more of it gets down into your lungs, instead of hitting the back of your throat. It’s also easy and fast in case of an emergency."

Dr Louisa Draper

Although many people use standard asthma inhalers, or metered dose inhalers (MDIs) without any problems, some people can find them hard to use. A spacer is a device that makes it easier to use an MDI, making it more effective and helping to reduce any side effects from breathing the asthma medicine directly into your mouth or throat.
