Will my hair grow back?
The good news is that although suffering from hair loss may be alarming, it is entirely natural and once your oestrogen levels return to normal, your hair growth will, too.
Normally, you lose on average 100 hairs from your head a day, and you probably don’t even notice as they shed over time. After pregnancy, the fall in oestrogen means that you’ll notice more hair falling out in the shower or ending up in your hairbrush. Once your hormone levels stabilise, you will notice fewer hairs falling out.
The rate at which you lose your hair usually returns to normal within six to twelve months following pregnancy. It can be frustrating, but most women who develop hair loss with or after pregnancy just need to be patient and wait it out. As your hormones stabilise, your hair should return to normal.
You may however notice that your hair is different - perhaps in texture or colour. This is normal and is also due to the hormonal changes caused by pregnancy.
